Layers of Fear
is a psychological horror video game created by polish indie developer, Bloober Team, developed for multiple platforms and self published on 16 February 2016.
The player takes on the role of a painter who lived in the nineteenth century and wants to finish his great work, and his obsession takes him to the borders of madness. Our hero is a young painter who used his wife as a model for his painting. Soon his wife became pregnant and she bore a child. But shortly after the idyll life turns into a horror movie... The plot of the game leads the player through the painter's estate and this journey is a chance to get to know different mental states of the hero.

The last promotion of Games made in Poland moved Layers of Fear high in the bestseller ranking. The game is already in the first one third of the best selling GOG titles.
As we can see, in periods of of discount, the title quickly raises up the popularity chart. This is a proven way to sell further copies of the game, taking advantage of the fact that the release took place more than 2 years ago and its production costs have already paid off.
The game is a typical simulator of walking in the perspective of the first person. An interesting audio visual layer
adds a unique character to the title, which, together with a captivating story, can spice up the player's shivers.
This is particularly noticeable in moments when reality is drastically distorted and ceases to be subject to the laws of physics, creating unreal visions.
After the positive reception of players and critics, the developer decided to release the DLC add on, on February 21, 2018 was released under the name Inheritance. The DLC add on tells the story of the painter’s daughter known from the basic version of game, coming back to her childhood home.
It is worth to mention is the fact that the small independent studio released its title on many platforms: Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and more recently also Nintendo Switch. The great multiplicity of platforms was probably influenced by the choice of the game engine, which was Unity 3D.
